Thailand mega-conglomerate CP/True has announced one of its biggest ever licensing deals with the Pokemon company.
The deal will bring 18 years of Pokemon history to a plethora of its brands and products, including an augmented reality (AR) Pokemon catching app to smartphones.
The AR Pokemon app will be launched in time for Thailand’s children’s day on 10 Jan and will eventually scale nationwide to give youngsters the chance of becoming a Pokemon master and travelling the country to actually catch them all.
“Nobody has ever had a licence like CP has before,” said True iContent MD Birathon Kasemsri Na Ayudhaya before running through a list of tie-ups that included everything from the usual anime and clothing to milk and the use of the electric mouse Pikachu to promote True broadband.
TrueVisions will feature Pikachu themed satellite dishes while TrueMoney’s card designs will feature some of the now 719 Pokemon.
True expects Pokemon to grab up to one sixth of the (3 billion baht) character licensing business in Thailand.
