French basketball player Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs has been named the NBA Rookie of the Year, the league's website reported.
In the past season, the number one pick in the 2023 draft averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Victor played 71 games in the regular season.
With 495 points in the voting, Wembanyama surpassed Chet Holmgren (295) and Brandon Miller (86) from Oklahoma and Charlotte respectively.
Following the regular season, San Antonio only finished 14th in the Western Conference standings, failing to make the NBA playoffs.
