Tuesday, October 12, will be the second day of the group stage of LoL’s premier tournament of the year, the World Championship 2021. Team Liquid and LNG Esports will compete for important points in Group D.
World Championship 2021 is the main tournament of the year in the cybersports discipline League of Legends. The 2021 edition of the premier international LAN tournament takes place in Iceland and will feature 22 teams from around the world. The tournament takes place from October 05 to November 06, 2021, and has a prize pool of $2,225,000.
Team Liquid: An important game to fight for the playoffs
Team Liquid are a European organisation, but the LoL team plays in North America like the CS: GO team. The roster is far from American, but that does not stop them from representing that particular region.
In the 2021 season, Santorin and Alfari joined the team, replacing Broxa and Impact. The boys won the Lock-In tournament and finished 2nd in the spring season with Armao as a substitute Forest player, replacing Santorin, who did not play due to health problems. As the 2021 American summer split progressed, it was announced that Jenkins would replace Alfari. This drew a lot of criticism from the community due to a lack of chemistry, and on June 24, along with Armao returning as Forest due to Santorin’s health issues, Jatt was sacked from Team Liquid Kold took over as head coach. Santorin returned at the end of the regular season, and Team Liquid finished 2nd, losing 0-3 against 100 Thieves in the final. Taking second place, they directly qualified for the group stage of Worlds 2021.
On the first game day, Liquid played against the MAD Lions squad and defeated that opponent. Important points were earned, but the game against the Chinese will be crucial in the battle to get out of the group.
LNG Esports: They are on their way to new historic achievements
LNG Esports are a Chinese multiplayer sports organisation founded in 2011.
The new LNG Esports lineup made its debut at Demacia Cup 2020. M1kuya, Tarzan, and Icon joined the team, replacing chenlun17, Xx and Maple. This squad finished 13-16 behind Vici Gaming and EDward Gaming in their group, but the squad was largely retained until the LPL 2021 summer season, with Ale joining the team as a topliner in place of M1kuya, who became a reserve player. After starting the split 4-1, LNG Esports got off to a solid start in the LPL. They ended the regular season with a score of 10/-/6. They had to face Suning in the playoffs, who defeated them 3-0, resulting in the LNG Esports team being ranked 9-10.
The same squad stayed together in the 2021 summer split, which was their best. After three weeks, they were off to a 7-0 start. Despite such a good start, the team slumped in the standings, finishing the regular season with a 10/-/6. LNG Esports defeated Suning, Top Esports, and Royal Never Give Up in the playoffs but lost to FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming to finish 4th in the summer split. After reaching the 2021 regional final, LNG Esports beat Rare Atom 3-0 and Team WE 3-1 to qualify for the 2021 World Cup.
The Chinese team got their tournament off to a flying start in the Play-In phase, where they effectively took on all their opponents. They defeated Koreans Hanwha Life Esports, Australians PEACE, Brazilians RED Canids, and South Americans Infinity eSports. The Chinese team started the group stage with a loss, defeating defiant debutants from Korea Gen.G. It’s important to score points today if the Chinese want to go further.
