Amazon plans to unveil a new device in two weeks - expected to be its first own-branded smartphone - and has uploaded a teaser video ahead of the event.

The company has sent out invitations for a launch event in Seattle on June 18, Extreme Techreported. Included with the invitation was a 50-second YouTube teaser video featuring members of the public using the device for the first time.

The device itself is out of frame for the duration of the video, apart from the top of the device during a brief period, so it does not provide many details. But the participants' reactions do appear to confirm the rumors that the device will have glasses-free 3D elements.

Amazon has rumored to be considering launching its own smartphone for years. If the company follows the model established with its Kindle Fire tablets, the device will use a heavily customised version of Android as its OS.

Persistent rumors state that Amazon has been developing both a premium smartphone and a low-cost, low-margin version. But the launch invitation states that the company will launch a singular “new device” at the June event.

Wikipedia has a list of launched smartphones with glasses-free 3D displays. The list includes devices from Sharp, Samsung, LG, Micromax, HTC, Motorola, Hitachi and Spice.
