BlackBerry will be required to pay $137 million to Nokia to settle a licensing payment dispute after losing a case with the International Chamber of Commerce's International Court of Arbitration.

The arbitration court upheld Nokia's assertion that BlackBerry had failed to make required payments to Nokia under a patent licensing agreement between the two companies.

In a statement, Nokia welcomed the decision and said a significant amount of the sum rewarded has already been recognized as revenue for the company.

BlackBerry is meanwhile pursuing its own patent infringement complaints against Nokia alleging that several Nokia base stations and related software infringe on 11 BlackBerry patents.

But Nokia said it “continues to believe that BlackBerry's unrelated claims of patent infringement by Nokia are without merit.”
