India's Bharti Airtel has announced a new partnership with HMD Global, the company established to produce and sell Nokia-branded feature phones and smartphones, to provide affordable 4G smartphones for customers.

Under the collaboration, Airtel will offer the Nokia 3 and Nokia 2 4G smartphones with a cashback offer of 2,000 rupees ($30), for an effective price of 7,499 rupees ($115) and 4,999 rupees ($77) respectively.

The cashback will be awarded to customers in two installments over a 36 month period. Customers making prepaid recharges worth 3,500 rupees within the first 18 months will be eligible for the first cashback installment of 500 rupees, while further recharges worth 3,500 rupees over the next 18 months will ensure the customer is eligible for the remaining 1,500 rupee cashback.

Both smartphones include a 5” screen, a 1.3GHz quad core processor and an 8MP rear camera, with the Nokia 2 having a 5MP front camera compared to an 8MP camera for the Nokia 3.

The Nokia 2 comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage expandable up to 128GB, while the Nokia 3 has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage also expandable up to 128GB.

“We are delighted to partner with Nokia to bring exciting and affordable options to customers planning to upgrade to a 4G smartphone,” Airtel COO for India and South Asia Ajai Puri said.

“Nokia devices have a solid brand resonance among customers and we believe that the partnership offers a great proposition to customers looking for quality devices at great prices.”
