Cisco unveils CloudVerse framework

Cisco is gearing up for a surge in demand for business-class cloud services, with a new framework it claims offers an end-to-end approach to deployment.

CloudVerse is designed to help organizations build, manage and connect to cloud services, including the rollout of data centers, connection to cloud networks and access to compatible services and applications. The firm claims combining the three elements simplifies rollout by allowing companies to develop an integrated approach – something that isn’t possible with current silo-based approaches.

Padmasree Warrior, senior vice president of engineering and chief technology officer at Cisco, says the silo approach poses “critical challenges for many organizations,” by making it “harder to build and manage clouds, and to interconnect multiple clouds.”

The vendor’s own research predicts that 50% of all computing workloads in data centers will be cloud-based by 2014. Its study also forecasts cloud traffic will hit 1.6 zettabytes per year by 2015 – some 12 times higher than at present.

Cisco claims 70% of leading cloud providers are using CloudVerse, including Fujitsu, Orange Business Services, Qualcomm, Telecom Italia and Telefonica.
