Two long-time telecom executives have taken the top posts at Hong Kong's perennial second-placed TV network, ATV.
Ricky Wong, the co-founder and chairman of City Telecom, has been appointed CEO of the free-to-air broadcaster. Wong will continue to serve as the chairman and executive director at City Telecom, the operator said in a statement.
The company said its believed City Telecom 'may benefit from the additional value Mr Wong may create by the ATV appointment'.
Linus Cheung, CEO of Hongkong Telecom before it was acquired by PCCW, has been appointed as ATV chairman. Cheung was also a deputy managing director and non-executive director of PCCW, and runs a radio show on publicly-owned RTHK.
Privately-held ATV is one of two Hong Kong free-to-air broadcasters, with just 15% of the total ad market. Its accumulated losses in the last 20 years top $600 million, analysts estimate.
City Telecom, founded in 1992 as a callback operator, is the city's second largest broadband ISP, offering speeds of up to 1Gbps on a metro Ethernet network. It has 150,000 subscribers to its IPTV service.
