Financial information firm Thomson-Reuters has launched its own network, Elektron, in partnership with data center firm Savvis, with hosts in New York, Chicago, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Singapore. The all-fiber network will support high-speed financial trading, the company said.

HP has launched a new range of edge-to-core networking products, HP Networking, combining gear from HP ProCurve and its new acquisition 3Com. It promises twice the speed at half the energy use of a typical switched Ethernet networking solution.

KDDI shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell to their lowest point in more than five months yesterday as the company revealed an unexpected decline in profit. The shares have since rebounded, but are again trending downward.

Sri Lanka's mobile subscriber base increased by 25.9% to 13.9m in 2009. But fixed-line subscribers fell a further 0.5% to 3.4m and the number of fixed wireline phones in regular use fell 6.7% to just 871,000 - as customers continued to ditch the landline, according to the nation's Central Bank.

Tata Comm has partnered with Hibernia Media to develop a global media services solution. Under the agreement, the brands will share each other's networks to deliver video and other services to their customers.

Sri Lanka's Dialog Telecom plans to rename itself to Dialog Axiata.
