HKBN has launched a new free offer allowing travelers to sample its Travel Pocket Wi-Fi 4G data roaming service.

From now until the end of the month, existing customers of HKBN's home broadband, phone and mobile services will be able to register for a free Travel Pocket Wi-Fi device and 5-day pass to the service.

The five day pass will allow the use of up to 500MB of data over 4G across more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.

New and renewing customers will also receive a free 10-day subscription to the service, and select HKBN Enterprise Solutions customers will be able to take advantage of the five-day offer.

Excess data beyond the 500MB daily cap will be shaped to a 128kbps maximum upload and download speed, and continued use of the service beyond the free days offered will be charged at HK$28 ($3.4) per day.

HKBN's Travel Pocket Wi-Fi device uses cloud technology to allow the use of one device across all countries and regions covered. The device includes a 15-hour battery life and doubles as a power-bank, and features a 4-inch touch interface for checking data usage and battery life.

“Once again, HKBN disrupts the legacy status quo. Not only are we providing customers with high quality, exceptional-value local fixed-line and mobile services, but we’re also handing out ‘Travel Pocket Wi-Fi’, a must-have companion for leisure and business travel, so that customers no longer have to suffer exorbitant roaming fees,” HKBN CEO William Yeung said.

“Furthermore, we’re making this available to our full base of around 870,000 home broadband customers rather than just our mobile customers. We want to do to data roaming what we did to international direct dial (IDD) decades ago, and continue to ‘make our Hong Kong a better place to live.”
