Huawei has become the first Asian vendor to be elected as a platinum member of open source cloud software organization the OpenStack Foundation.

The Chinese vendor said the appointment reflects its longstanding dedication to the OpenStack community - Huawei joined OpenStack in 2012 and was upgraded to a gold member in 2013.

During this time Huawei has contributed to a large number of OpenStack work groups, including six project team leads and 21 core members, and has organized or participated in various meetups including OpenStack Bug Smash and OpenStack Days China.

Huawei has also made OpenStack the foundation of its cloud computing architecture.

As of the end of February, Huawei ranked first in terms of completed blueprints supplied to the community, fourth for resolved bugs, sixth for reviews, seventh in lines of code and sixth in commits for the Ocata release, the company said.

"Huawei started our OpenStack journey in 2012, and we have been consistently increasing our contribution to OpenStack with focus and passion ever since,” Huawei VP of IT products Zheng Yelai commented.

“Our goal is to make OpenStack a huge success, and to build OpenStack so that it may truly bring value to our customers. We are honored to be selected as a platinum member and will continue to demonstrate our leadership and commitment to developing OpenStack and its ecosystem."
