New Zealand telecoms infrastructure provider Chorus is collaborating with Nokia to deploy an open access infrastructure supporting on-demand service fulfilment and assurance for Layer 1 optical services.

Chorus will trial Nokia's wavelength service solution as part of the operator's “one open access network infrastructure” project.

Chorus plans to develop an open platform it can use to accelerate the monetization of its infrastructure by offering fiber access, transport services, co-location and network hubs.

The operator will trial using the Nokia solution to offer new standards-based optical services to service providers.

Layer 1 connectivity services are becoming increasingly popular with large enterprises and governments due to their high capacity, low latency and inherent security. Chorus plans to tap into these demands to support these organizations' ongoing migration of IT operations to the cloud.

"Chorus is looking forward to trialling the Nokia wavelength services solution,” Chorus CTO Ewen Powell said.

“With its support for compact demarcation devices and end-customer portal access to fully instrumented service assurance dashboards and reports, we believe that solutions like this will further advance our service offer, and put more network control in the hands of our service providers."
