Optus has clinched a partnership with Microsoft to give Optus Business customers access to Microsoft Azure-enabled cloud services.
The Singtel-owned subsidiary announced on Monday that the partnership will see it become the first network service provider in Australia to partner with Microsoft for its Cloud OS network in the country.
“The Cloud OS Network program is for service providers who have embraced the vision of cloud computing. Through this partnership with Microsoft, Optus can now deliver solutions based on the Microsoft Cloud Platform designed to meet enterprise customers’ hybrid computing needs. Optus can offer customers more flexibility and control when it comes to managing the cloud environments,” said Pip Marlow, managing director at Microsoft Australia.
John Paitaridis, managing director at Optus Business, said the deal will allow Optus enterprise and government customers to access to a combination of Microsoft technology and Optus’ managed cloud and hosting expertise.
“Increasingly our customers want more flexibility in the way they use their cloud environment to realize the benefits of as-a-service and consumption-based models.”
The deal is Optus’ latest efforts to boost its ICT capabilities and Microsoft offerings to business customers. In December, Optus announced to acquire IT professional and managed services company Ensyst for $10.6 million.
Optus’ parent Singtel had also teamed up with Microsoft last October to launch the Cloud OS network in Asia-Pacific, claiming the first operator in the region to do so.
