Hong Kong's SmarTone has re-entered the fixed broadband market with the launch of a line of fiber broadband plans.

The company's new ST Fibre Broadband FTTH service is available for both home and office customers. SmarTone is offering 200 Mbps symmetrical, 500 Mbps symmetrical and 1000 Mbps symmetrical plans.

The service encompasses home Wi-Fi installations, and will allow users to continue to go online via Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the city. SmarTone aims to support over 11,000 hotspots within three months.

Plans can be bundled with a range of VAS, including cloud storage, tools for managing and automatically backing up this data and anti-virus/malware software.

The fiber broadband services can meanwhile be bundled with mobile service for a discounted price.

SmarTone CEO Douglas Li said reception of its wireless broadband plans has demonstrated that there is demand for broadband services from the operator. “To improve the economics of our business, and to better meet customers’ rising expectations on broadband performance, we’re now re-entering the fixed broadband market with FTTH,” he said.

“As the newest entrant to the market, we are the only fixed broadband provider with a 100% fiber broadband to the home, utilising GPON technology.”
