ZTE has won what it claims is the world’s first CDMA EV-DO Rev B Phase 2 contract with India’s Sistema Shyam Teleservices.

According to ZTE, the EV-DO Rev.B Phase 2 will first launch commercially in Rajasthan. Upgrades will involve a baseband channel board replacement plus software upgrade.

The Chinese vendor had introduced the CDMA EV-DO Rev B Phase 2 technology last year, with the standard purportedly being capable of enhancing spectrum efficiency.

Downlink speeds of up to 4.9 Mbps for a single frequency carrier and 14.7 Mbps for a three frequency carrier bundle are expected of the newer technology.

ZTE bagged contracts for CDMA expansion and EV-DO upgrades for 10 of Sistema's 18 circles. Sistema Shyam Teleservices operates under the MTS brand in India and has an 11 million strong customer base.

ZTE and SSTL have been partners since 2008. Financial details of the deals were not disclosed.

Other CDMA EV-DO operators include China Telecom, Ireland’s Smart Telecom and Pakistan’s PTCL.
