Australia's Telstra has announced plans to launch its first LTE device and services at the end of the month.
The operator, which switched on LTE trial sites in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in May, revealed it will sell the dual-mode Telstra 4G USB from August 29.
The device will operate on the 1800MHz and 850MHz spectrum bands, enabling it to connect to Telstra's Next G 3G network as well as LTE sites.
Telstra said it plans to make the device available to enterprise and government customers at first, in what CEO David Thodey called “a commercial pilot” of LTE services.
The operator has previously announced plans to launch 4G services in the CBDs of major capital cities and certain retail centres by the end of 2011.
Telstra's Hong Kong subsidiary, CSL, last week launched LTE services through its one2free brand with the launch of an LTE dongle of its own.
The operator also made LTE services and the dongle available to new customers through its premium 1O1O brand. CSL has been offering LTE through this brand since May, but only to existing subscribers.
