Australian operator Telstra has finalised an investment in IP Health, an Australian electronic health operator which provides medical practitioners access to patient information on their tablet devices and smartphones.

Matthew Koertge, managing director of Telstra's investment arm Telstra Ventures, said the company’s investment in IP Health would build capability in the operator's health portfolio.

IP Health’s core product Verdi provides hospital staff with patient information drawn from multiple systems within the hospital. Information is provided to the hospital's clinicians and administrators in real time.

IP Health CEO Ashley Renner said Verdi allows doctors to view and update patient information, lessening the risk factor and improving response times.

“Many doctors are called upon out-of-hours to respond to patient needs. Verdi enables those doctors to have the patient’s full history at their fingertips,” he said.

“This means that if a doctor is called at home for an emergency they could monitor a live read of a patient’s ECG on their iPad, cross check their pathology results from a number of laboratories and make a recommendation to the nurse on call.”
