Vodafone India has engaged Nokia to deploy the vendor's Cloud Packet Core solution to meet the mobile data demands of its customers in Bangalore.

The deployment will allow Vodafone to cost effectively provide faster mobile broadband and enhance the scale of its network for its 7.8 million customers in the city.

The project is also in line with Vodafone India's ambition of transforming into a digital telecoms operator. The company plans to use the cloud packet core's distributed architecture to provide new and enhanced services while increasing accessibility, performance and security.

Vodafone will meanwhile be able to introduce advanced services including IoT and machine type communications over its network.

Nokia will provide components of its cloud packet core including cloud mobile gateway, a dynamic services controller, DNS and Netguard firewall. The vendor will also provide its integration services for the deployment.

“We are thrilled to partner with Nokia and are certain this technology will enable us to scale faster by improving business productivity and network operations,” Vodafone India director of technology Vishant Vora said.

“Collaborating with Nokia will also support us in providing a more reliable and superior network experience to our customers. The introduction of a new architecture also enables us to reduce power consumption per customer, in our goal to contribute positively to society."
