Telecom NZ has launched New Zealand\'s largest mobile music store, partnering with Sony and the Universal Music Group.

The Telecom Music Store offers over 3.2 million tracks, each priced at NZ$1.99 ($1.27), a Telecom spokesperson told TelecomAsia.net.

The store is free to browse, and each track features a free 30-second preview. Song downloads are metered.

Telecom mobile unit director Paul Hamburger said the service will promote local artists, with local artists being featured on the home page, said. "This is a terrific way to gain exposure for local talent," he said.

The store is available on some Nokia, Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson handsets, with more music-centric handsets to come.

Rival Vodafone NZ offers its own music store, selling around 2 million tracks also at NZ$1.99 each, as well as album, music video and ringtone downloads. Unlike Telecom NZ\'s offering, its tracks are DRM free.
