ZTE wins first CDMA deal from revamped China Telecom

Shenzhen-based ZTE has won a 1.33 billion yuan ($195 million) CDMA contract from China Telecom - the first major mobile contract from the carrier since its restructure.

ZTE said the contract with Hong Kong-listed China Telecom Corp Ltd was for the first phase of a network construction project that would begin by the end of the year.

China Telecom, China's largest fixed-line carrier, completed the acquisition of China Unicom's CDMA business and its 42 million customers on October 2.

ZTE said it had won the biggest portion of the contract in of terms base stations and total size of deployment.

It said it expected further contracts for construction of the core network and the supply of additional equipment "to be agreed upon by the two companies soon."
