Italian specialist Gennaro Gattuso became the head coach of Marseille, as reported by the press service of the Ligue 1 club.
On September 20, Spaniard Marcelino Garcia Toral left the Olympians after only three months of work. Under his guidance, Marseille were third in the standings after five rounds, having dropped out of the UEFA Champions League at the qualification stage.
The club's official website quotes the coach as saying:
I can't wait to get to work with my new group and take on the next challenges that lie ahead.
After finishing his playing career, the 2006 world champion managed Milan, Napoli and Valencia - until January this year.
The defeat to PSG dropped Marseille to eighth place in the league table. The French club drew 3-3 with Ajax in the first leg of the Europa League.
