Uganda nabbed their first gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as Peruth Chemutai came on top during the 3000m steeplechase. She finished the course in 9:01.45 minutes and edged out USA’s Courtney Frerichs who got a silver, finishing at 9:04.79 minutes.
The bronze medal belonged to Hyvin Kieng who completed the event in 9:05.39 minutes, just missing out on second place. During the 2016 Rio Olympics, Kieng secured a silver medal.
