Top leagues such as UEFA Women’s League, Women’s Super League, and ten of the European women’s leagues have co-signed a document that points out the harms of the recently proposed biennial World Cup plan. According to the document, conducting a FIFA World Cup every two years can cause congestion and conflict with men’s schedules, undermining the growth of women’s football globally.

The Leagues are also arguing that the focus on national resources for men on a regular basis can hamper the flow of resources for women’s sports. The Leagues also fear that such regular World Cups can also stem the economic viability factor and cause investment issues. That is why the documents urge FIFA to have an “open forum” and undergo “selective consultation”.
