Qualifiers for the upcoming Dota 2 key event of the year, The International 2022, kick off on Saturday, September 3, in South America. No Runes and SG esports will meet in the second match of the most essential qualification.

The International 2022: South America Qualifier is an online Dota 2 tournament that will take place from September 3 to 7, 2022. This mini-tournament has no prize pool and features one straight regional berth to The International 2022 group stage and two extra berths to the last-chance qualifier that will take place the day before the main tournament kicks off in Singapore. Twelve teams will compete in South America. Recall that the two strongest South American teams Thunder Awaken and beastcoast have already secured their place at TI11.

No Runes: trying to prove their worth

The Brazilian No Runes has already changed several names this season. They started as the APU King of Kings. And in the first winter tour for the Peruvian organization, they earned fourth place in the elite division of the regional South American DPC league. The winter major was canceled, organizing separate regional finals for the top 4, where the Brazilians finished in last place but still earned some extra money. In the spring, the King of Kings team failed the elite tour and dropped to the second division. The Peruvians gave up their Dota 2 lineup, and the guys were forced to play in the summer tour in the second echelon called Coritiba Esports.

The Brazilian team was able to win the second division and even tried to go to ESL One Malaysia 2022, but lost in the final of open qualification just to their opponents from SG esports with a score of 2-1.

The guys start under a new name, No Runes, in the qualification for TI11. Difficulties are still there. The Brazilians will only have a chance to find an investor if they successfully perform in these qualifications. But let's be honest — the chances are really slim.

.

SG esports: not to fall to lower bracket early

A difficult opponent for SG esports to start the qualifying. But there will not be any easy games for this Brazilian organization because their game is far from perfect. Despite them likely turning out in the top three, we would not be surprised if they fail. After all, one can expect anything from these guys.

SG esports beat No Runes (2-1) in the ESL One Malaysia 2022 open qualifier. Even though it's a Brazilian derby, it's a Brazilian organization; the SG esports team is far from Brazilian unless you count the only representative of that country in the LTH squad.

The fate of SG esports in the DPC cycle is similar to No Runes. They played in the elite division in winter, fell to the second, won the lower league in spring, played in the elite again in summer, and most importantly, kept their place among the best, taking fifth place. Did not make it to ESL One Malaysia 2022, failing in the closed qualification. Tried their hand at Dota 2 Champions League Season 14 but played with a terrible ping.

It is noteworthy that last year this Brazilian organization was the main sensation of the qualifications, and the guys were selected for The International, where they took the last place, 17-18. This time the task is even easier. You can just go into the top 3 and fly to Singapore.

Head-to-head encounters

The most relevant match occurred at the ESL One Malaysia 2022 open quals, with SG esports winning 2-1. Before that, they played in January this year, and there, No Runes were stronger, 2-0. But it is worth remembering that the lineups at the beginning of the year for these teams were different, so we suggest starting only from the July 20 match in the battle for the Malaysian tournament qualification.
