Macko Esports: not the best of starts

Roster:

  • ACD — Markus Käpp (Top Laner)
  • Cboi — Casper Bo Simonsen (Jungler)
  • HHNeverLucky — Alexander Hegland Fedde (Mid Laner)
  • Rharesh — Riccardo Tata (Bot Laner)
  • Click — Vittorio Massolo (Support)

Macko Esports starts this tournament immediately from the main stage, as they took first place in the regional stage. The group for the Italian organization was not the most pleasant. Any team can easily defeat the guys, but Bo1 can help. The first opponent for Macko Esports were Dusty, who thrashed them, which is by no means great. Today, Macko Esports will face GameWard, who, in turn, got off to a good start.

We have seen Macko Esports at the EU Masters, even three times. The first time they took part in the main stage of the EU Masters Spring 2021 but failed to reach the playoffs there, finishing the group stage in third place. Already in the summer stage of the EU Masters, Macko Esports again reached the group stage, but no wins in six matches instantly sent the Italians home. In 2022, the organization could not make it straight to the main stage of the EU Masters Spring but reached the Play-in stage. As in previous years, the organization failed to make it out of the group, thus leaving the tournament in its first days.

Macko Esports is an Italian team formed through a merger with Racoon. The organization began playing in the PG Nationals in 2021, where it fairly quickly grabbed the lead, thereby taking the podium at every tournament. Macko Esports did not do well at the EU Masters unlike the Italian league. The organization could not make it past the group stage, which put a crimp in the more prestigious spots. In early 2022, Macko Esports couldn't make it out of first place in the PG Nationals; thus the organization had to play the Play-in stage at the EU Masters, which the guys failed. Macko Esports had already won the summer split, thereby advancing to the main stage of this EU Masters.

GameWard: great start

Roster:

  • Melonik — Dawid Ślęczka (Top Laner)
  • Akabane — Philippe Le (Jungler)
  • Czekolad — Paweł Szczepanik (Mid Laner)
  • Innaxe — Nihat Aliev (Bot Laner)
  • Kamilius — Kamil Košťál (Support)

GameWard started this tournament with the Play-in stage, as they took fourth place in the regional tournament. The group was fairly easy for the guys, so GameWard lost only one of the six matches. The match for getting into the main stage was also pretty easy. The guys beat KRC Genk Esports 2-0 on maps, thereby getting into the main stage. The group in the main stage was quite comfortable, where you can easily enter the playoff stage. The first opponent for the GameWard was Schalke 04, who could not prevent the guys to start the main stage with a victory. Today GameWard will meet with Macko Esports, which should also be easy to get through.

This is the first time we see this team at the EU Masters. The organization has held high positions in their region before but never reached the EU Masters. This time, they were finally able to make it.

GameWard was able to make it to the LFL as a team that was supposed to expand the league from 8 to 10 teams, but they ended up just replacing another organization. Starting in 2020, GameWard began to perform quite well in France's premier league. A stable 5th place in 2020 and the spring split of 2021 suited everyone, but the summer split of 2021 was not very successful, only 7th place. This season's spring split was the worst ever for GameWard. After finishing in 8th place with a score of 7-11, management decided to take a risk by leaving the lineup unchanged for the summer split. The split itself started very well for GameWard. In the first week the guys had no problem winning, against Misfits Premier, and then defeated the reigning EU Masters champions, Karmine Corp.

In week two, GameWard continued their win streak by defeating Team Oplon, but at the end of the week, Team GO stopped GameWard's winning streak in a very close encounter.

Week three began with a win against VitalityBee, and towards the end of the week the guys defeated Team BDS Academy, thus going 5-1. In the fourth game week, GameWard faced Mirage Elyandra, LDLC OL and Solary. In their opening match of the week, GameWard easily defeated Mirage Elyandra, making the score 6-1. The loss against LDLC OL did not put the guys far behind, but Karmine Corp caught up with GameWard on points. The guys were able to finish this week on a winning note, beating Solary and solidifying second place with a score of 7-2.

In week five, GameWard defeated Misfits Premier and Karmine Corp, which gave the team a huge confidence boost. Week 6, however, was not a good matchup. After losing to Team Oplon, the guys, despite dropping a bit, quickly made up for it by defeating Team GO.

Week 7 was very disappointing. After losing to VitalityBee and Team BDS Academy, GameWard lost their spirits and also gave up the eighth week, where LDLC OL set them up for three losses in a row.

In the final week, GameWard won one game out of two, pushing them into the playoffs from fourth place. In the playoff stage itself, GameWard were able to beat Karmine Corp, which ensured their passage to the EU Masters, but due to the loss against VitalityBee, the guys started the performance from the Play-In stage.
