River Plate vs Atlético Tucumán: Bet on the hosts

One of the Argentina Primera Division Group A leaders will host Atlético Tucumán, who have lost their chances of making the playoffs in the current tournament, on Matchday 12. Logically, the Millionaires are quoted as the favorites of the pair, and there is much evidence that the future hosts will achieve a positive result and perhaps even guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs.

Last week, River Plate unexpectedly, at least for us, lost on the road to Talleres Cordoba with a score of 0-1. And before that, the Millionaires achieved five straight victories in two tournaments, beating Alianza Lima and Fortaleza in Copa Libertadores. In the Argentina Primera Division, they turned out stronger than Defensa y Justicia, Argentinos Juniors, and Banfield. Overall, River Plate is in second place, but five points behind Racing, with no guarantees for entering the playoffs. After all, Sarmiento de Junin, No.5, is only two points behind the Millionaires with three rounds left in the group stage. River Plate's home statistics are sixth in the division: three wins, one draw and one loss in five games, for a goal difference of 14-6.

Unlike River Plate, Atlético Tucumán has a long winless streak dating back to March 2022. Since then, there have been five losses and two draws, splitting points with Defensa and San Lorenzo. Three rounds before the end of the group stage, Atlético Tucumán has lost any chance of a playoff spot: the visitors are 14 points away from fourth place, and the only motivation is to get out of last place. On the road, Atlético has the 12th statistic in Group A, only two points in five games, with a goal difference of 2-8.

River Plate and Atlético Tucumán have played 13 face-offs, the Millionaires having won seven with four draws and two victories for Atlético, with a goal difference of 23-15. The teams have played each other in four tournaments: Argentina Primera Division, Copa Argentina, Copa de la Superliga, and Primera Nacional. There are five head-to-head encounters on the River Plate field, of which the Millionaires have won three with one draw and one win for Atletico, 11-7 goal difference in favor of River.

River Plate is quoted as the logical and deserved favorite of the upcoming match despite the defeat in the last round. The Millionaires have not yet guaranteed themselves a playoff spot, but if they win on Monday, River will be as close as possible to the cherished goal.
