It wasn't easy for Portland to reach the semifinals. First, in the 1/8 finals, the club passed Minnesota 3-1 without much trouble, but the quarterfinals were tougher. The Timbers were able to beat Colorado on the road, scoring one and only goal in the 90th minute of the game. This extended Portland's winning streak to five games in a row.

Real Salt Lake made the playoffs with two wins over top-3 teams: 1-0 over Seattle and 2-1 over Sporting. Few people believe that Salt Lake will make it to the finals, but they thought the same thing about the quarterfinals and semifinals. Some would say lucky, and some would say worthy. Overall, Real Salt Lake had a good season, but for most of it was spent on the verge of leaving the passing zone.

It’s really hard to choose the favorite, but we'll do it. Real Salt Lake hasn't been able to beat Portland in just over a year. The Timbers play at home, where fans would go crazy if their team loses to a middling. Still, we think Portland will make the MLS 2021 finals.
