The Oilers' first game of the new season showed that the team has no intention of abandoning their flamboyant, attacking hockey. That is impossible with Connor McDavid on the roster. In their game against Vancouver, one of the best forwards of the modern era scored a hat trick and led his team to a 5-3 victory. It looks like McDavid is ready to break new records.
Calgary also gets off to a great start
The Flames had to start the new season with a game against the reigning champion, Colorado. The Avalanche had a back-to-back, but it doesn't take the credit away from Calgary, who had a really great game. Ritchie, Dube, Andersson, Toffoli and Lindholm all scored, 5-3. Even without Johnny Gaudreau, who transferred to Columbus, the Flames' offense has looked very potent.
