While we close in towards Wimbledon, there is no doubt that the tournament prior to the Grand Slam serves as the training grounds for various athletes looking to get a streak going before the main thing. There is a lot at stake even during a tournament like BAD Hambourg as we head towards the Wimbledon. And in this game of the tournament, Simona Halep will clash against Katerina Siniakova.

.

Simona Halep

Halep is one of the most decorated tennis players of all time. The 30-year-old need not prove much as she has won a coup0le of grand slams and has a win percentage of 70%. Simona is ranked 19 which is a far cry from her glory days in 2017-2019 when she was number one a couple of times but she is still an elite player. Halep last played in the Birmingham Classic Open where she lost to Beatriz Hadad Maia in three sets. Her run was ended by Qinwen Zheng in the second round during French Open. Prior to that, her biggest run came during Indian Wells Master, when she lost to Iga Swiatek in the Semis.

Halep has developed her game brilliantly and although her footwork is not the same, she is known to employ surprising shots and can convert aggressive winners from defensive positions. She knows how to balance the defensive and offensive game, using cross-court shots and down-the-line shots. She is an expert at clay but her performances in the grass have left much to be desired.

.

Kristiana Siniakova

Katerina Siniakova has been ranked in the 60s and although she has never been a top-30 player, she can still pose a more than a decent challenge. She has seen more success in the Doubles set up, being the number one player for more than half a year. Siniakova’s runs in the major tournaments are usually stalled in the first round or at the best second round. She lost to Bianca Andreescu in the Berlin Championship, before that she lost to Leylah Fernandez in the second round of the French Open and to Elena Rybakina during the second round of the Madrid Open.

Siniakova doesn’t have the crisp moves that Halep has and although she can cover the court well, she is not able to put up against aggressive players. She is well suited for a doubles game, where she uses her tactical nuances to stall the opponents.

.

Head-to-Head

Simona and Siniakova have clashed against each other three times. Simona has won twice, with all their games occurring on the hard surface.

Expert Betting Tips

There is no doubt that the overall portfolio favors Halep but her performances on grass surfaces don’t draw confidence in a deep run. Katerina has struggled against top-20 players but hey, in the WTA scene, you never know what is cooking. However, I see Halep coming on top here.
