In terms of average peak connection speed, Hong Kong and Singapore were the only two Asia-Pacific countries with average peak connection speeds above 80 Mbps, registering year-on-year changes of 29% and 65%, respectively.
Indonesia (with average peak connection speed of 25.8 Mbps) had the largest yearly increase, at 166%, and was the only surveyed country to see its average peak connection speed more than double from the third quarter of 2013.
In terms of adoption rate for high broadband connection (>10 Mbps), South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan also led the region, with 81% and 55% adoption rates, respectively. The lowest adoption rates were seen in China (1.4%) and India (1.1%). Akamai said the Philippines and Vietnam were not included in the list because their adoption rates were below 1%.
Indonesia, with 3.3% adoption rate for high broadband, once again registered the biggest gain at 2,403% year-on-year change.
Meanwhile, average peak mobile connection speeds spanned an extremely broad range in the third quarter across the world, from 98 Mbps in Singapore down to 3.3 Mbps in Iran, according to the report. Nine countries also had average peak mobile connection speeds above 50 Mbps, while another 40 saw speeds above 10 Mbps.
