In 2020, when Jeremy Wisten committed suicide after his professional career didn’t pan as wanted, it sent shockwaves in the football world about the burden of performances in the professional setting. Jeremy’s father Manila said that his son didn’t receive an ample amount of support from Manchester City after getting released by the club and that his son told him so himself. Manila also said that the club promised to arrange matches for his son where he could be seen by other clubs but only send a video of him to others, which he felt is merely a way to “tick boxes”.
Brendan Kiernan who also couldn’t make it to the English Premier League said that players need support after they are released by the club. He said most players ended up going down the psychological terrain are left as it is and that causes suicides. As per researches, only 180 out of more than a million aspirants make it to the top-flight clubs.
He personally did not believe he was receiving the right support at Manchester City to find a new club. I don't think that was a marketing video, I think that was a ticking of the box. It is a case that City should have done more, I know they have done more for others.
