After their recent dominance in the LCK, where Gen.G players have won four consecutive regional titles, the Korean champions will again be considered one of the MSI favorites. They became the first LCK team to stay atop the domestic championship for so long in a row and will be looking to win their first international trophy. At the head of the current Gen.G roster is Chovy, who is in his third season as one of the team's most consistent players, and he proved it once again during the recent LCK Spring Split.
Chovy received two individual awards - regular season MVP and split MVP. He was also named to the first All-LCK team and three other team members. According to gol.gg, Chovy had the highest average KDA at the group stage of the LCK Spring Split at 6.4, and in the playoffs, he was second in that metric at 5.2. However, he more than makes up for it with his gold per minute (GPM) of 458 in the playoffs and a 79.7 percent kill participation rate - the highest among all middies.
The Korean team, as the champion of their top region, started their journey to MSI 2024 right from the main stage and easily handled Fnatic at the start. However, China's second team had huge problems, which made many question the Korean champion's worthiness in the later stages of the tournament.
Bilibili Gaming
Bilibili Gaming is playing as the best team in the LPL at their home international tournament. BLG has been in great form since the start of the season, winning their first-ever LPL regional title. And the Chinese have done it in such a dominant style, suffering only one defeat in the entire Spring Split, which happened back in the group stage. They will be looking to put last year's grand final defeat, as they brought in the midfielder who beat them last season, Knight Ding, to the team in the off-season.
Knight had played an important role on the team since joining the team in the offseason last year when he was close to going the golden route with JD Gaming. However, his former team has since failed to qualify for MSI, and the title gives Knight the opportunity to become a two-time champion. And his stats on gol.gg don't lie: he's the only mid-lane player from the LPL to have an average KDA of 6 throughout the playoffs, as well as the highest number of average kills and assists, while also being an excellent farmer and damage dealer.
But despite all the formidability of the roster, the Chinese experienced unreal difficulties in the battle against PSG Talon, and this match incredibly surprised the community. But already in the Winners' semifinals, the strongest Chinese team beat the reigning T1 world champions and showed that they are aiming for the MSI 2024 championship.
Expert Betting Tips
Bookmakers favour the Chinese team, and it is not surprising. The head-to-head meetings are behind them, the home crowd is behind them, and everything should work out in favour of the LPL champions, but Gen.G is extremely motivated to break China's dominance in the MSI series tournaments.
