Just days after Pakistan international Haider Ali was placed under criminal investigation, the country’s cricketing reputation took another hit — this time involving some of its top players’ representatives, Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) has learned.

Moghees Ahmed, a registered agent who has represented former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, ex-spinner Saeed Ajmal, and current pace spearhead Naseem Shah, has been banned for five years by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for attempting to corruptly influence player selection in county cricket.

Ahmed, owner of the International Cricketers Association, was found guilty of making a corrupt approach to the head coach of a county team, offering him a share of his player commission in exchange for selecting players Ahmed represented in various franchise leagues.

The ECB said in a statement.
Mr Ahmed has been found guilty of making a corrupt approach to a coach of the county team in which he had proposed an arrangement whereby a coach would receive a share of his commission in exchange for selecting certain players he represents in franchise leagues.

The ECB-accredited coach reported the incident on the same day, triggering an investigation. Ahmed was provisionally suspended in March, and a disciplinary tribunal later found him guilty.

He has now been handed a five-year suspension, with a minimum of 30 months to be served. The remaining period is suspended, subject to good behaviour and no further breaches.

A History of Trouble

Moghees Ahmed has previously brokered county contracts for Saeed Ajmal and Naseem Shah and was also involved in promotional events and endorsements. However, his reputation has taken a hit in recent years due to multiple controversies related to unethical practices.

In light of such incidents, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made it mandatory in 2023 for all player agents to register officially. The move came after growing concerns that some agents were allegedly luring young players with false promises — including suggestions they could secure national team selection in exchange for signing with them.
