At least 40 companies and organizations of the IEEE P802.3av 10G-EPON Task Force have ratified IEEE Std. 802.3avTM-2009, also known as Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 10Gbps Passive Optical Networks.

IEEE Std. 802.3av and its predecessor, IEEE Std. 802.3ahTM-2004, are specifications that describe fiber to the mome telecommunications systems.

The new standard supports symmetric and asymmetric line-rate operations, and initial deployments of the 10G-EPON equipment are expected in 2010.
