A server issue at Amazon Web Services (AWS) caused interruptions to multiple major services across the web on Sunday.

The disruption, which started around 6AM ET Sunday, was traced to the company’s NoSQL database, named DynamoDB, in AWS’s data center in Virginia, USA. Issues had arisen with the metadata service within DynamoDB, which manages table and partition information.

According to the company’s Service Health Dashboard monitors, the issue affected 34 out of 117 AWS services. Several web products and services were impacted, including major AWS clients Netflix, Reddit, IMDB, Tinder and Viber. Amazon’s own Alexa and Instant Video services were also disrupted.

Netflix, which relies on AWS to stream its video content, was able to avoid being overly impacted by redirecting traffic from the affect AWS region to other data centers.

The issue was apparently resolved by 12PM ET Sunday.

Social media was abuzz with posts regarding the outage, and the hashtag #AWSoutage was used by Twitter users referring to the incident.

AWS customers were not the only ones to face outages over the past two days. Monday morning saw Microsoft’s Skype messaging and video application experiencing a major disruption that prevented users worldwide from utilizing the app’s functions.

In 2013, an AWS outage took down popular services Instagram and Airbnb.
