The deregulation of the telecom sector and the entry of foreign investors, particularly those with an already huge presence in the region, have fueled the growth of Bangladesh's mobile phone market. BIS Shrapnel forecasts the country's mobile subscriber base to hit 18 million by next year, after registering 100% growth in 2004 and a 137% increase in 2005. The entry of foreign operators has been particularly helpful as they have, together with local partners, helped improve the existing wireless infrastructure.
