China's fixed-line subscriber base will grow 4% to 5% from 2006 to 2009, resulting to a subscriber base of 425 million by 2009, a report from Research and Markets predicted.

The report said aggressive operator implementations and government-led initiatives will serve as catalysts for the roll out of more fixed lines in China.

However, mobile phone subscribers will continue to outpace the growth of fixed-line users, the research firm said.

It said China's mobile phone subscriber will reach 640 million by the same period.

The report also noted that improvements in network construction will lead to more and more 3G subscribers and in next 5 to 6 years China's 3G subscriber base will be about 40% of the overall market.

China's broadband subscriber base meanwhile is also expected to grow at the rate of more than 21% to reach the level of about 101 million by the end of 2009, the report further said.
