Fox International Channels (FIC) has made deals with Avex in Japan, Tencent and its OTT partners in China, Astro in Malaysia and Cignal in the Philippines to offer multi-genre OTT services under its brands.

These services range from SVOD and linear streaming to catch-up, and will offer FIC’s content across all genres.

Zubin Gandevia, president of FIC Asia Pacific and the Middle East, said that the online, on-demand opportunity is the new frontier and the company hopes to help its partners tap into a new segment of consumers who do not have pay TV.

“We are very pleased that we are able to deliver the latest world’s entertainment to Japanese viewers and also being a world pioneer in the VOD industry by offering a hybrid service that offers content on both a linear and on-demand basis,”said Rieko Muramoto, corporate executive for digital business at Avex Digital. “We could only make this happen by partnering with FIC.”

CK Lee, VP for sports business at Astro said this deal enables Astro to reach out to new fans via OTT.

“This partnership is a milestone and something to look forward to in the content, pay-TV, broadband and mobile space,”Noel Lorenzana, CEO of Mediaquest. “It’s also a show of leadership for PLDT, Smart, Cignal and FIC.”
