Ground testing of airborne GX solutions now available

Satcom testing vendor GateHouse Telecom has developed a new solution for testing customized airbone solutions based on Inmarsat's Global Xpress (GX) on the ground.

The new solution uses GateHouse Telecom's Global Xpress Link Emulator (GLE) to enable ground based testing of GX applications.

This will eliminate the need to test GX applications using a plane and will allow greater control over conditions compared to on-air testing, significantly reducing costs and the time required to test new GX applications, shortening time to market.

“When performing on-air testing for aircraft-applications, you must bring a terminal and antenna with you onboard the airplane, and you must maintain line of sight to the satellite throughout the test. Furthermore, you cannot control weather conditions and expose your application to rough weather, such as thunder and rain,” GateHouse Telecom product manager.

“But with our new Aero-features, developers can emulate a flight trip and expose their solution to different challenges that may occur during a voyage. This enables an efficient way to test and document solutions response to common distortions.”
