The GSMA has appointed KT executive Hyunmi Yang as chief strategy officer. She will work with the GSMA’s operator members in identifying opportunities that will advance the development of the mobile communications industry.

Yang will assume her new role on June 15 and will report to GSMA director general Anne Bouverot.

Yang joins the GSMA from KT Corp, where she joined in 2009 and was most recently EVP and responsible for both the mobile and fixed line businesses as chief customer officer.

She is notable for being the first female executive in the history of telecoms in Korea.

Prior to KT, Yang was EVP and CMO for Shinhan Bank in Korea, where she led marketing strategies and product development.
