Hong Kong fixed line operator Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has entered a collaboration with Link Real Estate to provide high-speed Wi-Fi services at all Link's 114 shopping centers.

The service will provide 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi service per day for shoppers and visitors without the need to go through a registration process. Coverage will be provided by HGC's 1Gbps fiber backhaul network.

The rollout will be conducted in stages, with the first set of shopping centers, including Link's flagship Stanley Plaza, Lok Fu Plaza, Temple Mall, H.A.N.D.S and Lions Rise Mall properties - expected to launch the service by early April.

The final phase of the rollout is expected to be completed by the middle of 2017.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Link in deploying a large-scale Wi-Fi network for the company’s millions of shoppers and visitors,” commented Jennifer Tan, COO of HGC parent company Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings (HTHKH).

“This joint effort not only reinforces HGC’s leadership in providing Wi-Fi coverage throughout the city’s major shopping clusters, but also allows the general public to enjoy fast and reliable wireless Internet service via HGC’s 1Gbps optical-fibre backhaul.”
