Cyberport has awarded ten teams of university students for developing innovative FinTech concepts as part of its inaugural Cyperport University Partnership Program (CUPP).

The winning teams consist of students from five universities - the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Winners were selected from a pool of 18 teams. Each winning team was awarded a HK$100,000 cash prize and an interview for the Cyberport Innovation Program, which provides financial aid, support and services to eligible Hong Kong startups.

The competition formed part of Global Entrepreneurship China - Hong Kong, being held at Cyberport this week.

The event aims to foster entrepreneurship in Hong Kong by helping the city's future entrepreneurs sharpen their skills and build connections with potential co-founders, mentors and investors.

Winning projects include software designed to provide printable anti-forgery protection for online documents, an online platform that matches users for international money transfer and a big data service for extracting and quantifying online stock market-related financial information.

“It is delighting to witness the growth of all the participants throughout the Cyberport University Partnership Program,” Cyberport director Edwin Lee said.

“I was impressed by the confidence demonstrated on stage to sell their FinTech ideas and win the hearts of the judges. A successful entrepreneur should celebrate and learn from failure. We hope all these aspiring young talents will keep their passion for entrepreneurship alive and never give up on pursuing their dreams.”
