Huawei Technologies has launched "the world\'s first" commercial Wimax distributed base station (DBS) with 4T4R (four transmitters and four receivers) features.
With the enhanced coverage capabilities and capacity of the new 4T4R Wimax DBS, operators will be able to reduce the number of base station sites in certain areas and lower their total cost of ownership.
Huawei said the 4T4R WiMAX DBS will increase operator efficiency by supporting multi-standard convergence and it can be configured into two 2T2R base stations, which will enable the 4T4R WiMAX DBS to handle different coverage configurations.
The new product incorporates green technologies such as natural cooling and a high efficiency power amplifier, allowing the 4T4R WiMAX DBS to "reduce the energy consumption and achieve better cost efficiency.
