IPTV subscriptions on the rise

The number of subscriptions to IPTV is seen rising 64.1% to 19.6 million worldwide this year, with revenues expected to soar 93.5% to $4.5 billion from $2.3 billion in 2007.

In Asia Pacific, the number of subscriptions is forecast to reach 6.5 million in 2008, and further expand by 34% to 18.7 million in 2012. By then, IPTV revenues in the region should hit $3.5 billion.

Right now, PCCW's nowTV in Hong Kong has one of the largest IPTV deployments in Asia with at just over a million subscribers as of mid-2008. This represents 40% of the estimated 2.3 million households in Hong Kong.
