Huawei launched its cellular IOT solution based on 4.5G NB-IoT technology at Mobile World Congress 2016. Demo services included several applications such as smart parking, smart water meter, smart trash bin and so on, which had been verified by global operators. Huawei also released world’s 1st pre-standardized NB-IoT commercial chipset.

In age of 4G, communication requirements between people and people have been satisfied. In next few years, requirement of connection will be expanded from people to machine.

Ubiquitous smart sensors will be widely used in daily life, public service, industry application and so on. By installing wireless detecting sensor in each parking lot, people can manage and search parking lot in urban area more easily. By installing sensor in each trash bin to report the status information, people can make optimal path planning for the garbage truck to save cost of vehicles and manpower. By installing sensor to monitor air, soil, water and harmful goods, people can protect environment more efficiently. After operators deploy ubiquitous NB-IoT network, everything will become connectable and controllable.

By technical innovation, NB-IoT will provide 100 times (20dB) penetration enhancement (comparing with GSM), 100K connections per cell, low power consumption to support 5~10 years’ battery life of terminal and low chipset cost(less than $1). It drives cellular network to greatly extend boundary of applications and helps operators to expand their IoT services to more industries.

As a leading proponent of NB-IoT technology, Huawei will vigorously promote NB-IoT commercial process in 2016. Huawei has cooperated with several leading operators to demonstrated smart water meter, smart parking and smart trash bin based on pre-standardized NB-IoT technology in China, Germany, Spain, UAE and other countries. Huawei will soon open 7 NB-IoT open labs with major operators worldwide. These open labs will work as open platform to accelerate the development of the ecosystem and support vertical industry partners / developer pre-integrated testing / certification. This will help operators to develop new business markets having deep cooperation with vertical industry players.

2016 will be the first year of large scale NB-IoT commercial use as we are entering into the new era of IoT!
