SK Telecom CTO named NGMN Alliance chair

SK Telecom CTO and head of technology Byun Jae-woan has been elected as chairman of the NGMN (next generation mobile networks) Alliance.

The South Korean operator has now had a representative on the board since 2008, and this appointment marks a third three-year term.

The NGMN Alliance was founded in 2006 to help craft standards for next-generation network infrastructure, service platforms and devices that meet the requirements of operators and end-users.

Electees from 10 operators, also including China Mobile and NTT DoCoMo, sit on the board.

Also represented are AT&T, Bell Mobility, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and Vodafone.
