Eight leading global operators yesterday announced an alliance designed to stimulate deployments of machine to machine (M2M) services.

SingTel, NTT DoCoMo, Telstra, Telefonica, KPN, VimpelCom, Etisalat, and Rogers aim to stimulate M2M rollouts by offering simpler compliance with local regulations, and near global connectivity options.

Under the banner of M2M World Alliance, the telcos will target domestic and multinational companies with services the firms claim will be priced inline with market rates.

“With operations in more than 60 countries, the Alliance’s global footprint presents multinational organizations with a seamless approach to deploying connected devices in multiple countries at one time,” explains Angel David Garcia Barrio, M2M World Alliance chairman.

The alliance will focus on several sectors it considers major growth industries, including connected cars, fleet management solutions, smart meters, consumer electronics, game consoles, wearable electronics, tele-health, and security.

Zia Zaman, vice president of Emerging Businesses and Strategy, and Group Enterprise at SingTel predicts 2014 as a “breakout year for M2M as providers rollout solutions globally.”
