Thailand's Advanced Info Service (AIS) is working with equipment maker Motorola in conducting Wimax trials.
According to Motorola, AIS started trials over Motorola's Wimax Access Point-400 (WAP-400) platform in Bangkok and Lamlukka in the first quarter this year.
AIS, Thailand's largest mobile operator, is testing real-life applications over Wimax and is also looking at customer usage models in metropolitan, suburban and rural areas, Motorola said.
During the trials, Wimax was tested with various applications such as substitution of phone line, content delivery platform and high-speed Internet connection.
AIS is eyeing Wimax to replace ADSL in providing broadband and other telecom services in cities and suburban areas.
