Toggle Originals, a Mediacorp VOD service, has started broadcasting 11 new made-for-digital productions.

The public broadcaster said it was focusing on new original content in English and Mandarin due to positive viewers’ feedback received for previous Toggle Originals such as Sabo, Mystic Whispers and Toggle Talk —titles from genres ranging from comedy, drama to thrillers.

Anil Nihalani, head of connected media at Mediacorp, said that as a local OTT provider, Toggle aims to deliver a variety of entertainment options to its users.

“Our viewers are getting more sophisticated, expecting to be excited by content they can relate to and artistes they can emulate,” he said. “We hope that the 11 carefully curated new productions will strike a chord with our viewers, as we continue to strive to meet our viewers’ varied content consumption needs.”

Dorothy Lai, director of public service broadcast at the Media Development Authority of Singapore,  said as media consumption shifts online, Singapore viewers can look forward to a greater variety of local content on Toggle.

The government is supporting Mediacorp in developing more original local content on Toggle under MDA’s PSB Contestable Fund Scheme.

“Singapore content producers will also have more opportunities to create innovative content to engage a wider audience, especially the youth, beyond our free-to-air television platforms,” said Lai.

Toggle will deal with other digital production houses for future original productions.
