On October 31, 2015, Sichuan Telecom became the first operator in the world to realize the commercial application of the IPTV 4K ultra HD live TV by successfully broadcasting the final round of the “iVoice of Sichuan” (a singing competition).
4K live TV programs feature better fast-action, more detailed picture, and on-the-spot effect combining the Dolby sound. The 4K Live TV can provide as good video and audio effect as that in the theater. ZTE, as the leader in the IPTV/OTT field, actively collaborated with Sichuan Telecom in Live TV dedicated network modernization during project delivery process and provided advanced technologies to ensure the successful 4K Live TV broadcast.
ZTE provided Sichuan Telecom with an E2E 4K Live TV solution, covering the system middleware, CDN, and terminal. It adopts the integrated CDN integrating IPTV and OTT capabilities for the first time in the industry. In October 2015, ZTE and Sichuan Telecom made joint efforts to build the 4K Live TV system based on H.265. The system, which was the first IPTV system globally to realize the scale commercial application of 4K live TV, supports RTSP and HLS protocols, flexible service models, and combination of Unicast and Multicast according to the network situation.
To realize the 4K Live TV service, ZTE made multiple technical innovations and optimizations in terms of content decoding, storage performance, and platform integration. The system uses the H.265 standard and doubles the compression ratio through the advanced image prediction function and precise coding architecture. The super integrated CDN with the highest density among similar products enables a single device to store 4K movies up to 26,000 hours, support the service performance up to 56G, and provide online service for 4,200 4K users concurrently. The system adopts the dual-center remote disaster recovery solution. The dual-center mode can realize load balancing, resolve network faults quickly, and ensure system security. Moreover, as one of STB providers of Sichuan Telecom, ZTE provided the small and stylish STB B860A, which fully embodies the small and intelligent design principle.
